The best decision I’d made last year was to travel to Estonia for my gastric bypass surgery. The service I’d received from Merle was a clear indication of how my journey was going to be. She was courteous, responsive and empathetic. She arranged for me to speak to Dr. Kaur at my request. I had so many concerns and questions; Dr. Kaur patiently listened and was very forthcoming with his responses.
Read full storyOn arrival to Estonia, everything went as planned. At the hospital, the nurses were so kind and attentive. Dr. Kaur was amazing! He took the time to explain the procedure to me before the surgery and gave me the opportunity to ask as many questions as I wanted to. After the surgery, and every day I was at the hospital, he visited twice! He is truly an asset to the hospital and clearly enjoys what he does!
I have since lost over 20kg since my surgery and am in the best shape of my adult life!
My personal experience is very good, everything was very professional at the hospital. The dr and nurses, everybody were helpful and very nice. I feel so much better now, although I’m not at my goal weight yet. I would recommend Bariatric Services to anyone who is considering surgery.

I had blood test done in december and all was good, I will have another one in the end of may, and have everything checked out again.
The surgery has changed my life to the better, I dont regret it one minute, and can hardly remember the first hardest weeks, they went by so quick.
Hi! I have been obese from the age of six. Around my sixties I ended up to 125kg and my back, feet and ankles started to protest. I always ( until christmas 2017) thought that bariatric surgery is nothing for me. Started to study the new methods: could I possibly make such a radical change in my life and take all the risks of complications? Be the girl who never eats more than one slice of pizza, if any? The process before surgery was extremely simple compared to the process on public health care here in Finland. (And yes, I work at one of our University Hospitals with my overweight).
Read full storysuddenly, it was April, I took the trip to Tallinn. Everything went perfectly well and here I sit on my sofa writing this, one week after the Sleeve-procedure. I congratulate myself of this decision … so far following the postop. instructios has been easy. I do not recommend this to anyone, BUT if you have made by yourself the decision and understand the consequenses. Just go for it! I’m feeling great! (-13kg from christmas, -5kg from the operation).
For more than 15 years I struggled with my weight. Considering that I’m only 31 years old 15 years is a long time. I tried every way to loose weight but always ended up gaining more. After I had my daughter in 2013 the weight gaining got completely out of control. In the summer of 2017 I was at my heaviest both physically and mentally and in July I finally admitted that I not only wanted help, I needed it.
Read full storyAfter doing some research and talking to a friend with personal experience, Bariatric Services was the only place to go to in my opinion. Everything was so professional from the beginning. Their website was very informative and Kaire, the coordinator, answered all my questions personally and with respect.
September 5th 2017 is they day my new life began. That’s the day I had gastric bypass surgery performed by Dr. Ilmar Kaur. I was never nervous, not once. I was only excited and everyone took such a good care of me. Being a licensed practical nurse and now a nursing student I looked at everything at the hospital with different eye too and I can honestly say that everything was excellent both related to hygiene and professionalism. The staff was very helpful and kind and I felt very secure the whole time.
Dr. Ilmar was there when I came and showed me the hospital room, he then checked on me at least twice a day the whole time I was in the hospital. When discharged I got excellent patient education about life after surgery both from Dr. Ilmar and nurse Anni Laas and was ready to start my new life on my own – though I wanted to take everyone back to Iceland with me 🙂
Since I got back home I’ve been doing really well and have not experienced any complications. It’s now almost 8 months since the surgery and I have lost 35 kilos. I am only 5-7 kilos away from my ideal weight and that is something I thought I would never experience. I haven’t felt so good about myself in years and life is much more easier, both for me and the closest people around me.
I haven’t taken stomach medicine since I got back home but I took 40 mg of Esomeprazol daily before surgery because of bad acid reflux. I also do not need to take medicine for anxiety anymore. I was in high risk of getting diabetes type 2 but that’s not a problem now.
I can eat anything, really, but I now focus on meals as a nutrition so I choose my meals well. If I don’t do that it will result in less energy throughout the day and I don’t feel well physically. I also take vitamins daily, that’s really important and not as hard to remember as I thought it would be.
I now exercise because I want to and it’s a completely different feeling going to the gym and actually like it. I can also do things there that I could never do before. I can now sit on the floor playing with my daughter and run with her up and down stairs without having a hard time to breath.
I can not thank Dr. Ilmar Kaur and all of the Bariatric Services team enough. They will always have a special place in my heart and I will be forever grateful to them.
I have lost 21 kg and my weight is 72 kg. I am very happy with the results of the surgery and I feel great. I can eat everything without a problem. My experience with Bariatric Services is fenomenal both with the health care and counseling. You took care of me in all the steps of my journey. I would reccommend it to anyone to do their surgery with you.
In theory, I consider myself a super pro on weight loss, on losing and gaining weight J It’s because I struggled with my being overweight for 15 years.
Read full storyI gained and lost weight dozens of times: losing 10 kg, gaining 15 kg. I knew very well how to lose weight by using diet and sport. And I knew how to hold it. But my problem was laziness. As soon as I lost weight, I failed to hold it: to celebrate the loss, I ate a lot and gained weight back.
It was 7 years ago, when I heard first about the stomach reduction surgery in a TV program, where there were very fat people. For them, this surgery was vital.
I made a final decision to go for the stomach reduction to lose weight in this way in 2013, after I met and talked to a friend who had undergone this surgery at Dr. Kaur’s clinic.
After meeting her, I signed up for a consultation with Dr. Kaur. I was 26 then and I weighed somewhere around 125 kg, although I’m pretty tall, 180 cm.
The surgery was appointed on 13 January 2015. During the New Year night, I certainly ate well, but after that I told myself to stop. Enough. And since 1 January, my new life has begun.
What in this entire saga helped me a lot in making a decision was the communication with people, who had already undergone this surgery. I also read all the forums and all the information on this issue on the Internet.
A month after the surgery, I lost about 10 kg.
As a result, a year and a half after the surgery, I have 47 kg off and I feel wonderful!
Today I’m not a full-figured girl looking at slim guys and dreaming. Now I’m a beautiful and slender girl, doing sports!
Now, when I am eating, my eyes play a major role. I know visually how much food I can accommodate. So I eat accordingly. If I eat a little more, I feel bad: food gets stuck in my throat. But this happens rarely – I get used to it. I eat whatever I want, but bit by bit.
If earlier, under stress, I immediately sat down and ate, now it’s the other way around. I do not want to eat.
Frankly speaking, my fondness for sweets persists. But today 2 to 3 candies are enough – I just don’t want more.
I’m very happy that I decided to take this step and underwent this surgery! I can wholeheartedly advise it to everyone, who has extra weight and who tried all the other ways.
Recently had a mini gastric bypass under Dr. Ilmar Kaur. I found Dr. Kaur to be an outstanding surgeon. The treatment I received well under his care was excellent. I can not recommend him highly enough. From my initial contact with Kaire the coordinator, I knew I was going to be in good hands. I traveled from Ireland and was in Estonia for 5 days. The first night was spent in a nice hotel in the centre of Tallinn and remaining nights in a private room in a private clinic. I was met at the airport etc. Dr. Kaur speaks fluent English and checked in on my twice a day during my hospital stay. Outstanding.
I am 10 days post bypass revision surgery and l cannot thank Dr. Ilmar Kaur and his bariatrics team enough. I traveled on my own for the surgery and they took incredible care of me. I cannot believe how well l feel after surgery and traveling home was painless. My scars are tiny and even after 10 days almost invisible. I cannot recommend him highly enough he is at the top of his game as far as surgeons are concerned. Superb, from start to finish.
I recently had bariatric revision surgery in Tallinn, Estonia, organised through Bariatric Services. I chose this company to go with because of the speedy response to my initial enquiry and then the very professional and organised way in which everything was dealt with.

The hotel had a supermarket a couple of minute away and was only a few minutes walk from the Old Town for sightseeing. Merle met us at the airport as arranged and we were taken to the hotel for our overnight stay. The following morning we were picked up and taken to the hospital. The surgeon Ilmar Kaur was there to greet us and explain exactly what would happen and when. His English was extremely good as were one or two of the nurses so there was no problem in getting information at every point. I had a private room and with the exception of the endoscopy all the various tests were carried out in that room. Once he had seen what surgery was required it was carried out in the late afternoon and Dr Kaur telephoned my mother immediately afterwards to let her know how things had gone. He came in to see me at least twice every day and I could not fault his manner or his expertise. Additionally because I had the malabsorption surgery he explained that in the rare event that I did not lose the expected amount of weight he would perform further surgery for me at no extra charge. I was extremely happy with everything and am very grateful to Merle and Bariatric Services for arranging things for us so competently. I highly recommend them and would be happy to chat to anyone considering this service if they would like me to.

Fantastic hospital, great staff, a brilliant surgeon and Merle was there to make sure everything ran smoothly for us.
My history began 5 years ago when I was 30 years old. Early in life I was an active man and went in for sports a lot. There was nothing to pay much attention to except athletic injuries. My height is 199 cm and weight early in life was just about 105 kg what was ideal in view of the height.

Since my 30 years, problems with health began to arise little by little. The first symptom was an increase of blood pressure and weariness. During the following couple of years, the weight gradually began to increase and health got worse. When the weight came to more than 125 kg, I decided to do something in order that the weight would decrease. I went to a doctor of diabetes. After a realized analysis, it had been found that blood sugar was out of norm and an urgent treatment was needed. It was 3.5 years ago and I was prescribed the peroral drug therapy. However it did not achieve expectable results, the health got worse still more, the weight increased and there was severe fatigue. The blood sugar was not stable, it varied all the time within the limits from 8 to 15. During those three years, I additionally tested various diets, significantly changed my customs to take meals but everything was useless.
A year ago the matter went so far that I was diagnosed diabetes of the second degree and prescribed insulinization. At that time I thought that there was no more salvation and everything went to death. I had to administer injections of insulin with various actions 5 times a day. Volumes were astronomical. During that year the weight reached more than 145 kg. Variation of the blood sugar forced to eat and the health did not allow it to continue in that way.
I gave up everything as lost and lived with the attitude “I live until I live” as some doctors told me.
I met with my good acquaintance and friend who told me about the operation which yielded very good results in case of such a disease and such symptoms. I got to know that bariatric operations were made in Tallinn and decided to go to a consultation. Having listened to a doctor, I quickly made a decision. I thought that I was given a new chance; there was a sensation of beginning of the new life hope for which should be seized.
My operation was carried out by Dr Ilmar Kaur in Tallinn in the beginning of 2017. From the moment when I emerged and got to know that everything was OK, I had not to be disappointed with anything. When I had the operation, I weighed 143 kg and administered the injections five times a day as before. From the first day after the operation, I had not to administer the injections any more and take other medicines (reducing blood pressure) except vitamins. The blood sugar was within the limits from 4.2 to 6.3 what is very good showing and at present the weight has been reduced up to 120 kg. I feel well and it seems as if I were born again. Helpings of my meal decreased noticeably but quality, undoubtedly, became better. I can eat so frequently as I want and the blood sugar does not force me to eat any more as it was in the past.
I visited my doctor of diabetes. After receipt of answers to new analyses, he said me that I was healthy and had a wonderful improvement! It seems to be a wonder but it is my reality. Everything seems to be excellent to a person who reads this letter but it is a matter of fact. For the present moment, I am very happy and satisfied with this result.
Once again, I would like to thank the medical man, Dr Ilmar Kaur, who was my surgeon and advised me this operation. I thank everybody who encouraged me and helped me. You should believe, wonders are not disappeared and chances are always available.
I wish You every success!
I contacted the surgery coordinator sometime around June 2017. I was able to arrange for two surgeries for my dad and myself. He had his surgery at the end of August and I had mine at the end of September. It was a great experience for both of us. The quality of care is outstanding. The doctor and the nursing team is great.
Read full storyI liked my hospital stay and was very appreciative of an amazing nursing care. I work in the healthcare and know the crucial role that nurse play in the patient’s care. This is world class standard.
There are a lot of parts of the process: initial consultation, travel and surgery arrangement, arrival, pre-surgical screening, surgery, post-surgical care and post-surgical screening which does not end after the departure. And each part was done smoothly, basically, we were dealing with a very competent group of people who know what they are doing.
I am very grateful to Dr. Ilmar Kaur and his team for everything they had done for me and my father. I am in a great physical shape. My quality of life, as well as my health, is improving dramatically. I would highly recommend them.
Thank you very much.
I’m lost almost 20 kg’s during this 6 month period, feel much better, energetic since I started to be loosing weight step by step start doing sports and activities.

This is a totaly different lifestyle, needed to change my eating habits, portions and have to change my lifestyle for it but I’m flexible so it does not bother me, I see almost the amazing consequenses, encourage me and just have to listen to my body and tell me what I need and how often and importantly how slowly…this was the biggest change to learn how slowly need to eat and what and how small portion for my comfort feeling. But by now I’m pretty confident with these as well.
So summery I’m so happy and this was my one of the best decision in my life to apply for this operation on your clinic, I can not be greatful enough for your very professional teamwork for this treatment and your kindness.
A couple of months ago, I was told by many doctors that most of my health problems were caused by my overweight. Allthough I didn’t eat too much, the only option I had was looking for help, which I was very lucky to Get offered by Bariatric Services in Estland. The hospitality was excellent as well as the follow up.

Thanks to all of you
As an Australian, surgery is very expensive and I was planning on moving to the UK, where surgery is also very expensive, so while I had been wrestling with the idea of surgery for years, it wasn’t financially viable for me in either of these places. My asthma getting worse, weight not going anywhere, and generally feeling very uncomfortable with my body, on the day I turned 31 I made the decision to book.
Read full storyThe Bariatric Services in Tallinn were one of a couple of international clinics I was looking at, but I was very impressed with Merle (the program coordinator) and her fast feedback and assistance with my questions. I had a lot of questions about things like after care, specific problems I may have in surgery, and once they were all answered I booked in to have my surgery 2 weeks later! I spent 5 days in Tallinn, the first day I was able to walk around the city which was fantastic, and then the rest of the week was hospital time! Merle was there to meet me at the airport and took me to my hotel, as well as helping me to find out where to see! The next day she picked me up and took me to the hospital where I was given my own room! I met the team of doctors before surgery and asked lots of questions, ran some tests, and then it was time for the surgery. The entire process was amazing – I was very very nervous, not only because I was away from home but also because I hadn’t had a major surgery since I was about 4 years old. The entire team were incredibly helpful in making sure I felt comfortable and well informed at every stage! Not only was I taken care of in hospital, but I was given a fantastically detailed plan to take home and follow for the next stage of my life. I’m happy to say I had no complications and honestly feel like a new person! For people who may be interested in travelling overseas for bariatric surgery, I would highly recommend coming to Tallinn and doing it through Bariatric Services. Not only is it cost effective, the hospital is fantastic, and the team will always be on hand for you if you need assistance.
I want to thank Merle, Dr Miidla, Dr Kaur and Kristel (RN and nutritionist) for making this process so easy and for giving me a new lease on life!
From the first day I contacted Bariatric Services in Estonia right up until I was dropped back at the airport after the surgery I was given the highest standard of treatment and care a patient could receive. I would 100% recommend their services to anyone considering treatment and believe it to far excel the private treatment I would have received here in the UK at nearly half the price.

Now, 19 months ago I went to my Sleeve and it was the best decision of my life. I decided to go to Bariatric Services after examining several advantages. I liked very well Dr Ilmar and the hospital on the website. I sent an email to Merle and got answers very quickly and could ask for anything I wanted.

Merle picked us up on a Monday morning, we went to the hospital and shown the place, my husband was with me at the hospital, were just two in a room. The surgery was later in the day, it was all explained very well for me and all the staff was great. Almost all spoked English, I must say that all the people, nurses, doctor, dietician, just everyone who approached me were wonderful. I was in the hospital until Thursday and flew to Iceland on Friday.
It has all been successful. I’ve been under the supervision of my GP in Iceland, I received instructions from Dr Ilmar for my doctor for monitoring the operation. I also received a few emails after the operation from Ilmar to check my condition and I had full access to them by phone or email if I needed to keep.
I have lost 64 kg and now I feel so good. I’m in the gym to strengthen me and increase my stamina.
Now next on is saving money for surgery to remove skin from stomach, upper arms and thighs, the loose skin is the only drawback I see the operation ?
I recommend this place and I will come back there when I fix the skin. Awesome staff, it’s all there 100%
I started to look into bariatric surgery for a while ago until I finally got the courage and went to my local bariatric clinic to the info meetings and even made an the pre-appointment meeting with the surgeons, anesthesiologists, nutritionists, etc that would have been in charged of my surgery. I felt more like a cow in a slaughterhouse than in a clinic and took the decision to do it, so I spoke to my GP and asked me of how much was I going to pay for and he recommended me to look abroad, and I did. After an extensive look all over Europe I decided to go with Bariatric Services in Tallinn Estonia.
Read full storyMerle (patient coordinator) answered every single email with all my questions that I asked and those where she didn’t have an immediate answer got me back the day after with the answers after consulting with the rest of the bariatric team. When all my questions were answered I made the decision to go with Bariatric Services.
Merle met me at the airport, took me to my hotel and picked me up at the hotel the day after and we went to the hospital where I had my own private room and toilet, wifi, tv, etc; there, I had my tests done by fully capable nurses and met Dr. Ilmar Kaur, my surgeon. We went through the details of the surgery (including the bad and ugly), and I’ve got sleeved that evening. Some part of my decision was that my surgery had to be done at a hospital (North Estonia Medical Centre) in a big city and not a clinic 2 hours away from a city just in case there is an emergency.
The nurses took care of me amazingly. Every time I needed help they were there, and even if their English language is not perfect (like mine) there were never any misunderstandings nor lack of communication, and Dr. Kaur visited me every single day of my stay of four days in Tallinn twice per day to check on me. Also RN Kristel Janvest followed me up with my diet plan and life style change every day as well.
I’m three weeks out of my operation and even though it’s really recent I couldn’t wait to write a review for Bariatric Surgery. Merle is still checking on me and reporting my amazing recovery back to Dr. Kaur and RN Janvest…. And… I’m down on my meds!
I’m really grateful of this whole experience, and so far… one of the best decisions that I’ve taken in my life!
Having just undergone bariatric surgery in Estonia. I have nothing but high regard for the professionalism dedication of the staff at the hospital. I chose this hospital because of the price of only €6000 but they are worth twice that amount in the way they have conducted themselves and treated me. I would recommend this hospital to anyone who wishes to have bariatric surgery.
After several years of considering bariatric surgery and wanting to do it since 2010, I finally found an affordable option with Bariatric Services. I turned 40 in 2016 and did not want to spend another year being overweight, with low self-esteem unable to enjoy my life with my husband and kids.
Initially I was very nervous as I read some horror stories on the internet regarding hospitals offering bariatric surgery that ended up with the patient having terrible complications, but I had a good feeling when I looked at Bariatric Service’s website.

We scheduled a date for the surgery. I arrived in Tallin on a Monday and Merle collected me from the airport. She was friendly and welcoming. She drove me to a hotel and made sure I got booked in and told me she would be back the next morning to collect me.
The next morning Merle collected me and I arrived at the hospital. Some tests were performed in the morning and I met with Dr. Ilmar Kaur and my surgery took place late afternoon.
The care I received was beyond my expectations. I had my own private room. The hospital was very clean and modern. I was well taken care of and the staff very helpful and friendly.
The first 12 weeks after surgery was probably the hardest, but if you follow the Dr.’s orders you should have no complications.
I reached my personal weight goal at 9 months post-op, but have continued to lose weight. I managed to walk 15km which I never thought possible without any pain to my feet, back and legs.
I gained so much self-esteem that I applied for a job and got it which I also never thought possible as I have not worked for 6 years. I really believe losing the weight assisted in me getting the job. Not only has it improved my self-esteem, but it also has improved my health significantly.
Dr. Kaur and his team has really changed my life and it truly has been a New Begging for me. I could not thank them enough and would highly recommend them.
